What would need to be true for that decision to stop depending on how convinced they feel?

How much savings would make this move structurally possible? The mind loves to multiply variables.
The rule demands one.
Step 2: Tie It to an Observable State
Translate that criterion into a measurable condition. โWhen my savings hit X, the decision activates.โ
This is where the decision-making-rule becomes concrete. The condition either applies or it doesnโt.
Step 3: Lock the Outcome in Advance
Predefine the action: โIf savings reach X, I give notice within 30 days.โ
The outcome is chosen before doubt returns. The rule becomes a contract with your future self.
Step 4: Raise the Cost of Reopening
Share the rule with someone you respect. Schedule check-ins.
Create social friction around backing down. Now the decision-making-rule has gravity. Reconsideration carries weight.
Notice what just happened.
The decision stopped living in your head and started living as a rule.
Doubt can show up. Bad days can exist. They donโt get a vote.
Pressure Testing the Rule
You might wonder if collapsing a complex life move into one criterion oversimplifies reality.
Complexity still exists. The rule chooses which variable gets to decide.
Without that collapse, every variable tries to decide and the outcome drifts.
What about new information?
If it changes the observable state, the rule adapts. If it doesnโt, it becomes noise. The decision-making-rule filters what matters.
What if the criterion turns out wrong?
